NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS GARNER NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION.

NAU researchers are acknowledged thought leaders in many fields, and their work continues to receive national and international recognition. For example:

  • Ted Schuur and Christina Schädel lead the Permafrost Carbon Network, comprised of 300 scientists from 88 research institutions worldwide. The network synthesizes research about permafrost carbon and climate for future assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
  • Scott Goetz leads the 600-member science team for NASA’s Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE), a large-scale study of environmental change in the Arctic. Michelle Mack leads the ABoVE Wildfire Disturbance Working Group.
  • Nadine Barlow is a founding member and chair of the Planetary Crater Consortium, an international organization of scientists interested in impact craters throughout the solar system.
  • William Covington is a leader in the field of forest ecosystem health and restoration. He has often been invited to testify before congressional and state natural resources committees.
  • Considered one of the leading linguistics scholars in the world, Douglas Biber conducts groundbreaking work on corpus-based approaches to the study of language.
